About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Observability Engineer to join our growing team. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our observability infrastructure, ensuring the health and performance of our platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain observability solutions across our platform.
  • Develop and implement monitoring strategies and dashboards.
  • Investigate and resolve performance issues and incidents.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate observability best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest observability technologies and trends.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Observability Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring and observability concepts.
  • Experience with popular observability tools and technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on building and maintaining monitoring and observability systems.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python, or Java preferred) and experience with data processing and analysis tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with observability concepts such as tracing, logging, and metrics, and their implementation in production environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Bonus:

  • Experience with Honeycomb or other observability platforms.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Contributions to open-source observability projects.

Technical Expertise

  • Design, implement, and maintain observability solutions across Honeycomb's platform and infrastructure.
  • Develop and optimize instrumentation strategies for various applications and services.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex system issues using Honeycomb's data and tools.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal observability best practices and documentation.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate observability into development workflows.
  • Partner with product managers to define and prioritize observability features.
  • Communicate observability insights and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in observability.
