Responsibilities

As a Senior DeFi Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, deploying, and maintaining cutting-edge DeFi infrastructure and products. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing stablecoins, staking, liquidity, and cross-chain flows. You will lead cross-chain infrastructure development, collaborate with Security Engineering to implement robust multisig/on-chain monitoring solutions, and integrate market data, liquidity signals, and execution systems into DeFi flows. You will own the entire lifecycle of DeFi products, from whitepaper/spec to contract implementation, deployment, monitoring, and upgrades. Furthermore, you will drive innovation in stablecoin infrastructure and mentor junior and senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of DeFi protocol mechanics, smart contract patterns, staking, AMMs, stablecoins, bridges, governance, and liquidation mechanics.
• Proficiency in Solidity and EVM patterns, as well as Rust and Solana patterns.
• Experience with advanced tools such as Foundry, Tenderly, Slither, Echidna, Anchor, and SPL.
• Ability to design scalable, gas-efficient, and upgradeable DeFi systems.
• Proven experience with security-first engineering practices, including formal verification, audits, fuzzing, and invariant testing.
• Practical experience with messaging protocols, paymasters, and multi-chain state sync.

Compensation

$180,000 - $230,000 per year.

Qualifications

Required:

• Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in DeFi protocol mechanics, including smart contract patterns, staking, AMMs, stablecoins, bridges, governance, and liquidation mechanics.
• Programming Proficiency: Strong command of Solidity and EVM patterns, as well as Rust and Solana patterns.
• Tooling Familiarity: Hands-on experience with advanced DeFi development tools such as Foundry, Tenderly, Slither, Echidna, Anchor, and SPL.
• System Design: Ability to design scalable, gas-efficient, and upgradeable DeFi systems.
• Security Focus: Demonstrated commitment to security-first engineering principles, including formal verification, audits, fuzzing, and invariant testing.

• Multi-Chain Experience: Practical experience with messaging protocols, paymasters, and multi-chain state sync.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred:

• Experience contributing to open-source DeFi projects.
• Familiarity with blockchain economics and tokenomics.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Technical Development

• Design, develop, and maintain core DeFi infrastructure components, encompassing stablecoins, staking protocols, liquidity pools, and cross-chain interoperability solutions.
• Spearhead the development of cross-chain infrastructure, collaborating with Security Engineering to implement robust multi-signature wallets, on-chain monitoring systems, and specialized tooling.
• Integrate market data, liquidity signals, and execution systems into DeFi workflows in close partnership with Trading & Risk Engineering teams.

Product Ownership

• Manage the complete lifecycle of DeFi products, from conceptualization (whitepapers and specifications) through implementation, deployment, ongoing monitoring, and planned upgrades.
• Champion innovation within stablecoin infrastructure and provide technical guidance and mentorship to both junior and senior engineers.

Ethena Labs seeks a talented Senior DeFi Engineer to join their team. The hiring process begins with a review of submitted resumes and cover letters. Candidates whose qualifications align with the role's requirements will be invited for a technical phone screening. This initial conversation will assess the candidate's understanding of DeFi concepts and their technical proficiency.

Successful candidates will then participate in a series of in-depth interviews with Ethena Labs engineers and leadership. These interviews will delve deeper into the candidate's experience, problem-solving abilities, and cultural fit. A practical coding challenge may also be incorporated to evaluate the candidate's hands-on skills.
